Anuga 2019: Disruptive drinks and personalized nutrition out in full force
In nutrition news this week, Anuga 2019 in Cologne, Germany was in full swing. Start-up Tranz used the showfloor to underscore how it bypassed EU regulations on CBD-infused beverages to debut its potentially disruptive drink.

Also at the show was a
variety of food and nutraceutical products designed to help consumers meet their skin health and wellness targets. Personalized nutrition was also in full force at Anuga, with the Nutrigenomix President noting that there is no going back to one-size-fits-all nutrition recommendations.

The Managing Director of GoodMills Innovation also highlighted that personalized nutrition is pushing sales of ingredients that target gut health. Meanwhile, Dr. Simone Frey of NutritionHub discussed the complexities of debunking fake nutrition news in light of social media. Also at Anuga was Blue Diamond Growers, which said that the based trend is boosting the almond business globally, particularly with an increased interest in almond milk, almond flour and almond protein.

A study from the Joslin Diabetes Center found that high levels of fructose in the diet inhibit the liver’s ability to metabolize fat properly. Meanwhile ADM released new clinical data affirming the safety and efficacy of a blend of probiotics when used as a coadjutant therapy to alleviate symptoms in psoriasis patients.

Beneo announced it is set to implement a 5 percent price increase on its functional fibers, inulin and oligofructose for food and feed applications. A new DuPont study uncovered some of the prebiotic mechanisms behind its product Care4U 2’-Fucosyllactose (2’-FL).
