Angel Yeast scores Non-GMO verification for 22 yeast solutions, Coffee under threat from climate change

This week, China-based yeast biotech company Angel Yeast scored the Non-GMO Project verification for 22 yeast extract and inactive dried yeast flavoring solutions. A new report flagged that coffee, cashew and avocado cultivation is at major risk from climate change, with future production expected to be nowhere near current levels.

Also, inflation continues to be in the spotlight as food prices surged globally, with some places – like the UK – reporting the highest inflation levels in 30 years.

Research by The Good Food Institute flagged that the burgeoning global appetite for plant-based diets is squeezing cornerstone ingredients, like coconut oil and pea protein. In new partnerships, Givaudan & Danone collaborated to support Future Food-Tech start-up challenges and Nestlé tackled child labor risks by offering financial incentives to cocoa farmers.

Kerry talks about rolling out new solutions that enable clean label preservation. US research explored how GMO labeling affects consumer purchasing decisions, while KeyGene, WUR and Takii broke new ground for crop modification. In other developments, Nestlé was prompted to discontinue a special edition KitKat range that featured images of sacred Hindu deities on the wrapper after accusations of cultural insensitivity.
