Ukraine war threatens global malnutrition, Unilever raises age for junk food marketing
In nutrition news this week, governments and donors were called to stop reallocating nutrition budgets, as the Russia-Ukraine war will cause severe food insecurity globally, especially for women and children.

Unilever raised the age for restricting unhealthy food marketing to children aged between 13 and 16. The measures are described as "vital" in stopping the spread of diseases caused by the consumption of such foods.

Furthermore, Nuritas revealed an "unparalleled" innovation opportunity in peptides for active ingredients, using an AI-powered supplement innovation.

Kaneka Probiotics’ KABP Formulation was found to reduce the severity of functional gastrointestinal disorder symptoms such as colic and constipation in infants and Abbott Nutrition increased its infant formula production.

The US Food and Drug Administration revealed that NAC has been excluded from the dietary supplement definition under the FD&C Act while the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) concluded that saturated fats, sodium and added sugar intakes exceed dietary recommendations in most EU populations.

EFSA also published a positive opinion on Arla Foods Ingredients’ beta-lactoglobulin ingredient, Lacprodan BLG-100, for higher protein in sports nutrition, health foods and special medical foods.
