Coty’s reports strong Q4 results, Advent acquires Shiseido’s Laura Mercier, bareMinerals and BUXOM

This week in personal care news, Coty reported financial improvements and recovery across its operations for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2021, even as pandemic-related restrictions continued in many markets.

Meanwhile, private equity investors Advent International signed a definitive agreement with Shiseido Americas Corporation under which a newly formed affiliate of Advent, called AI Beauty Holdings, will acquire three of Shiseido’s cosmetics brands – bareMinerals, BUXOM, and Laura Mercier.

In ingestible beauty, Resveratrol was “rediscovered” as a beauty-from-within ingredient as the category steadily grows, according to Marcia da Silva Pinto, senior technical manager of Health Ingredients at Evolva.

In addition, Zev Ziegler, head of global brand & marketing, Health at Lycored, discussed evolving consumer demands for ingestible beauty products and the need for sustainable approaches within this sector.

Clariant acquired the remaining 70 percent in Brazilian personal care specialties company Beraca, while Amyris launched Terasana Clinical, a clean skincare brand. Furthermore, Mono Skincare launched NPD in tablet form.

Lastly, Avon México is integrating advanced augmented reality and artificial intelligence in its digital platforms in partnership with beauty tech solutions provider Perfect Corp.


Trive Capital has acquired Henkel’s antiperspirant and deodorant brands Right Guard and Dry Idea, while L’Occitane completed the restructuring of its US lease portfolio, creating a sustainable store platform for the long-term. Meanwhile, Ulta Beauty, announced financial results for the second quarter of 2021, delivering “strong results.”
BASF Care Creations is launching Seanactiv, an ingredient based on organic-certified marine algae fucus vesiculosus which improves signs of aging and fatigue around the eye contour. The ingredient helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles, crow’s feet wrinkles and under-eye dullness within just one week of application, the company supports.
